Ts & Cs

Lakeland Paws: Terms and Conditions

By applying for a place in either the 5 or 3 mile races, in any of our canicross events you are agreeing to abide by the rules below.

As with all of our events, we will review these rules throughout the year, both before and after the race takes place so we welcome feedback from runners. We also reserve the right to amend any rules for the events which may become required to meet the needs of the landowner, our insurance or to improve safety.

If you are unsure about the meaning of any of these rules, please get in touch with us before race day so we can answer any questions you may have.

  • These events are predominantly for canicross runners, but people are welcome to run without a dog too. Due to steep and narrow sections of the route, at Whinlatter runners are only permitted to run with one dog, two dogs may be run at Dodd Wood.
  • Look out for your fellow runners and dogs and give them all the help and support you’d wish if you or your dog were struggling.
  • Runners need to run with the same dog around the course, swapping dogs at any point on the course in any single event is not allowed.
  • Runners must be 16 years of age to take part. Exceptions to this may be made by the Run Director on a case-by-case basis.
  • Runners are not allowed to use headphones whilst running. These are strictly forbidden as a full awareness of your surroundings is essential.
  • Runners must always obey the instruction of marshals.
  • The decision of the Race Director(s) regarding the race, results or the safety of any runner is final. They reserve the right to remove any runner or dog that they deem necessary for the safety of all of our competitors (including other dogs).
  • The start for both the 5 and 3 mile course will operate a ‘dib and go’ system – so individuals start after the runner in front of them, to allow plenty of space at the start for the dogs to get underway safely.
  • Green Space Events Ltd reserve the right to refuse or revoke entry to any runner, where they believe that accepting the entry could prejudice the event, Green Space Events Ltd, event sponsors, associates or staff. This right of refusal extends to include applications where acceptance is considered by Green Space Events Ltd to be likely to infringe upon the enjoyment of any persons connected with the event, including staff, marshals, volunteers and other runners.
  • Rules may be added if and when circumstances arise. These rules are for the safety of everyone involved.
  • Race Directors reserve the right to grant a place to any runner who in their opinion, has made, or is expected to contribute to the overall success of the race.

Runners

  • It is the runner’s responsibility to ensure that they are medically fit to participate in any of the events advertised on this site. If you have any medical conditions which may affect participation you should first consult your GP and then inform the organisers of the situation.
  • It is the runner’s responsibility to ensure that they have the correct equipment required for the event and also to ensure that it is in suitable working order. The organisers will not take responsibility for injury or inability to continue caused by faulty personal equipment.
  • Runners must run under their own name.
  • The organisers cannot take responsibility for loss of personal possessions during the event. It is the responsibility of runners to safeguard personal possessions.
  • It is the runner’s responsibility to ensure that they enter their details correctly when completing event registration.

Dogs

  • All dogs must be 12 months old to compete, for larger breeds we recommend 18 months.
  • We are unable to accommodate your dogs who are in season at our events.
  • No pregnant or nursing dogs are allowed to compete.
  • Dogs under 12 months are welcome to come along for socialisation but there needs to be someone able to look after them throughout the duration of the event.
  • All dogs must be safe to take part – any dogs who are behaving aggressively or showing signs of anxiety may not be allowed to run at the Run Director’s discretion.
  • Dogs must be run with a harness. A bungee lead and a harness on their runner are highly recommended.
  • Choke collars, electronic collars, flexible / extendable leads are all strictly forbidden.
  • If it is appropriate for your dog to run with a muzzle, we recommend basket muzzles – the type that they can still drink and take treats through.
  • No aggression or abuse to any dog or person will be tolerated under any circumstances.
  • Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times and must pick up after their dog whilst on site. 3 poo bags are part of the compulsory kit. Failure to pick up after your dog will result in disqualification.
  • Dogs must be kept on lead at all times unless to do so would put the dog, owner or another dog in danger.
  • Runners are responsible for ensuring that their dogs have enough water but plenty is available in streams and becks on the course.
  • The dogs’ health is paramount. Any dog showing signs of poor health must be withdrawn from the race immediately. These would include over-heating, severe limping, collapsing, refusing to run, excessive salivating (particularly if very thick and sticky), excessively elevated heart rate or any other condition which causes any concern.
  • No more than one dog per runner.

Cancellation

  • If the organisers need to cancel the event, a refund will be given minus a £1 entry admin fee, and any additional costs that have already been incurred. Some reasons for cancellation may include: wind speeds over 47mph, ice on the ground, extreme high temperatures, pandemics or any other unforeseen circumstances.
  • If you are no longer able to run then you may transfer your entry to another runner for the same event you originally entered. This is done via the SiEntries system and must be completed at least 12 hours before the event.
  • If you inform us of a cancellation with two or more weeks notice before an event, we will transfer your entry fee to another Lakeland Paws event of equal value, of your choosing. A refund will not be issued.
  • Any requests for a transfer to another event with less than two weeks notice before an event will not be possible, neither will a refund be issued. However, in these circumstances we will issue a 30% discount voucher for a future event on receipt of an email requesting one at least 12 hours before the event takes place.
  • It is not permitted for anyone to on-sell entries in the event for a fee higher than the original price paid for the entry. Anyone discovered doing this will be immediately disqualified and banned from all future events organised by Green Space Events Ltd.
  • For the avoidance of doubt, under no circumstances will we cover any costs associated with cancellation – such as travel, accommodation etc.
