All dogs must be at least 12 months old to compete – 18 months is our minimum recommended age for larger breeds
Dogs should be fit and healthy and not carrying any injuries. Older dogs are run at an owners discretion
Dogs must all be run wearing a suitable harness (we do not recommend Julius harnesses) dogs cannot be run from collars, halti’s or on retractable leads
If you’re looking for advice on harnesses, we have spare harnesses, provided by Non Stop Dog Wear that are available to borrow – please contact us first to reserve one
Dogs need to be on a lead at all times
Owners need to be responsible for the behaviour of their dog at all times. Our insurance does not cover any incidents caused by your dog’s behaviour, you would be fully responsible for this so please ensure you have appropriate personal canicross insurance if this is a concern
Owners need to pick up after their dogs
Our local out of hours vet service is Millcroft Vets who are based in Cockermouth, (Wakefield Rd, Cockermouth CA13 0HR – 01900 826666) or OakhIll Vets Windemere (015394 88555) they are aware of our events and will provide emergency treatment at the owner’s expense
On most courses owners are able to run with two dogs – the only exception to this is our Seat How course at Whinlatter, which due to one short, slightly more technical downhill, we limit to one dog per runner
If your dog has been diagnosed with BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) they will not be allowed to run
Above all, this should be fun for both your pet and yourself, quite simply, put your dogs needs first and enjoy running in the forest together
